Pubali Bank signs SME development deal with BB

Pubali Bank Ltd. has signed an agreement with the Bangladesh Bank (BB) for the Development of Small & Medium sized Enterprises under a JICA-assisted Financial Sector Project, a bank press release said Tuesday.
Sukomol Singh Chowdhury, General Manager & Project Director, Department of SME & Special programs Bangladesh Bank and Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director & CEO of Pubali Bank Limited signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions at a simple ceremony at the conference room of BB.
In the presence of A.H.M. Kai-Khasru, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, seven banks and non-bank financial institutions, including Pubali Bank Ltd., attended the signing ceremony.
Under the project, the Government of Japan will provide a total amount of 5000 million yen for the Development of the SME sector by the Bangladesh Bank and participating banks and financial institutions.
General Manager, Credit Division of Pubali Bank Ltd. Habibur Rahman and other senior officials of both organizations were also present at the signing ceremony.
In his short speech Managing Director & CEO of Pubali Bank Helal Ahmed Chowdhury said his bank is working for the rural populatiion in poverty alleviation and development of SMEs. The Pubali Bank is extending loans to poor people at a competitive interest rate for poverty alleviation of the rural people, he added.
